Web hosting headaches
Copy of an email I sent my web hosting company at precisely 8:33 this morning.
Billing/auto renewal
Title - account drafted and site is down!
---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- -------------------------------
> Hi, I'm a bit furious.
>
> I started receiving email reminders about a month ago. Many of them were
worded saying that if I didn't pay by such and such a date service would be
interruppted. I was going to renew when my taxes came in but didn't have the
money right at the renewal date. Then I get a notice saying that I had to
authorize a draft since my account was through paypal. THEN I get drafted. I
never authorized this. Looking at my original emails, I saw that it did state
automatic draft for renewal, but what I don't understand is why the emails
didn't say that. It's deceptive, and it cost me $100 in overdraft fees!!
Then on top of all this, my site is down.
>
> My website is www.morgansylvia.com. I think I am entitled to an extra week at
the end of this for all the hassle. Please correct this ASAP. I cannot have my
site down, and if you are not going to provide the service you charge me for,
please cancel my account, refund my money and I will go find hosting elsewhere.
---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- -------------------------------
At 9:46, I received an email from them informing me that my domain had been restored and that an extra week had been added onto my service. I really should have asked for way more than a week, but since their original emails did state it would draft, I don't think I have much recourse there. But sure enough, the site was back up.
I'm a bit stunned by how quickly they responded. I was fully expecting the runaround and spoiling for a fight.
